Based on numbers, it will be Ariza easily...

He's been the go to guy for the Rockets....and he has more freedom on the Rockets...
While Artest does not....because well...we all know why..

So, I say Ariza outplays him..

But the Lakers will come out on top!!!!

Ariza outhustling the whole Los Angeles roster.

The kid has heart.

Kobe, Pau, Lamar, Artest. They'll stop him, but no way he's quitting. You know the Rockets have determination. Battier, Brooks, Scola, Hayes, Ariza. The only reason I have L.A. over Houston, is because they're not going to go in and forget about 2009.

You have to break it down more than that... Ariza can't create shots and isn't the passer Artest is. Artest doesn't have the length of Trevor and can't finish like Ariza.

They don't play the same at all.

Artest: Slab of rock with legs.
Ariza: Deer sprinting in the fields.

Well what I was trying to get at, was more of they're gonna play the same tonight.

They're gonna stop each other on offense... aka very good defense..

Ariza is a better defender. I said it.

Artest is lockdown off-ball. Give, let's say, Paul Pierce the ball, he'd burn Artest one on one Offense/Defense.

Ariza has long arms and can stop a driver/create-his-own-shot-player

I think it's bigger story than that. If the Rockets win tonight and Ariza goes off and Artest sucks it up, the headlines will read: Houston's Ariza shows Lakers what they're missing.

Ariza isn't a better on-ball defender....

If anything...Ariza is a better off-ball defender.....

Artest is a former DPOY....sure...thats a while ago....but he didn't get that just by being a good off-ball defender....

Artest has the power and length to stop just about everyone....thats why he is so effective against guys with the body of Lebron James....

Ariza isn't a better defender than Artest at all.. at least not yet.

Ariza is basically a big play defender, just goes for the steal. Uses his length to his advantage.. get in ur face.
Artest is much more than that.

It's all about match-ups.

I agree. I have far more faith in Artest guarding Melo' and LeBron, because he can use his body against them (remember Kobe ended up having to guard Melo in the playoffs because Trevor couldn't hang). I'd trust Ariza more to guard a guy like Roy or Durant.

I didn't say all Artest was is an off-ball defender. I just said Ariza has better one on one defense. Meaning the opponent has the ball. And Artest is guarding him. Nobody helping out.

While Artest is better against guys like Lebron, Melo...

And it just so happens that guys are like Lebron, and Melo seem to produce more offense than fast, quick players...
Why? Because their body makes it very difficult to guard them (obviously...they also have the skill set)
And that makes Artest more valuable on defense than Ariza...

I agree
Artest mightve lost a step against quick guys but is still a great defender and as of right now better
IMO Artest is better on ball while ariza is better off ball

Which, Ron is bigger. Ariza is smaller. Artest can play the SF, the PF. Ariza can become a SG in the future.
