The trade obviously makes the Mavs a legit top 3 threat, and yes, they can go to the Finals with this roster

They are legitly two deep at every position. Perhaps they also can have Butler Play some PG on offense as well since he is sick on Isos, something he didn't get too much of this season thus far

Essentially, this allows for three 7 footers to play at the same time like another team in the conference. Tim Thomas is a reserve 7 footer..


To play devil's advocate, it's not like Caron, Brendan, and the Swagsta are the second coming of Jesus and Drew, Josh and co. are all garbage players. Caron had a mediocre season scoring wise in Flippy's offense. DeShawn has struggled to shoot even half decently all season. Brendan at least fits the Mavs great, but will he be okay playing off the bench if that's what Carlisle wants?

Talent wise, the Wizards will still be competitive on paper. Josh's minutes and role were put into limbo when Shawn Marion came along this season, and was expected. But in DC, he will be a #2 or #2A option to Antawn, and will also get to play alongside a decent backcourt tandem of Randy Foye and Mike Miller. Josh is more of a catch and shoot player than Caron and should fit in better than Caron did, though there's no question that Caron is a better player, arguably the best "true SF" in the NBA after the last couple seasons. As with Drew, he is a solid though slightly undersized as a center (but Dwight is 6'10" in shoes himself) and will be a better option to defend other teams' number one options down low than having Andray or JaVale for full time. He's not the best center in the world, but our best option, and both Howard and Gooden, if they take this trade as a new opportunity, rather than a curse, they should perform well with Mike, Randy and Antawn. The other two guys (Ross and Singleton) will be filler. Given that our front court is thin with this trade as it is, I doubt Gooden and Howard get waived, since Flip needs to be at least somewhat sane for the rest of the season. No way he can deal with a Blatche and McGee starting frontcourt.

Who "wins" the trade? I say both. Talent, of course the Wizards are presumably worse, but the Mavs want to win the 2010 NBA Finals and hope that Kobe gets pissed and leaves the Lakers in June. The Wizards are trying to build around Antawn Jamison in the short term, hope Gilbert gets a long prison sentence so voiding the contract will be easier, hope the Cavaliers lose in the playoffs to the Hawks, Magic, or Celtics AND in the summer sign a 6'8" guard/forward out of St. Vincent-St. Mary's High School of Akron, Ohio.... THE KING, LeBron JAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMES!!!!!!!!!! It is much easier to get LeBron to DC now that Swaggy Stevenson is in Dallas.

This would have been the best Mavericks weekend ever if there had been a Dunk Contest and Dirk had hit that GW three instead of getting fouled.

LOL great trade, but what's with the Mavs always making trades during All-Star break? I mean Kidd in Dallas was a done deal by the All-Star break everyone knew it was gonna happen all that needed to be done was to find fillers cause the original filler, Devean George, bitched not to be traded.

Hahaha imagine if Drew Gooden doesn't want to play in Washington, like last year when he didn't want to play in Sacramento. So both sides decided to part ways and they cut him so that he could sign on to San Antonio. Imagine if he does the same this season and Dallas gets him back. How deep would that be?
