im going with Carmelo Anthony

Carmelo.

Pierce.

Pierce wants it as much as Duncan, as much as Bryant, as much as all the greats. Carmelo, he just lacks off and is too lazy. If Anthony really tried his hardest his whole career, he would be a great player today. While Pierce is excellent in all parts of the game and is more experienced, can get it done, and can lead a team. Anthony rellied on Billups this past season. Defensively, Pierce is better, but not by much.

Melo. He's much younger than Pierce.He shoots better and gets to the rim easier.

Carmelo is kind of lazy, but hes a better shooter then Pierce and can score more then Pierce can, as of now im have to go with Carmelo because hes younger and can do everything Pierce can do, But pierce is a bit better defensively because melo doesn't even try hard enough. If melo tried as hard as wade and Kobe then he would be probably as good as Lebron and Kobe. So overall im have to go with Carmelo as of now.

I agree with SK

My reasons why is Pierce better then Melo are that he plays better defense,is more all around and is more clutch

If I have to choose who I want to build a franchise between these two players, I would obviously chose Paul Pierce. Paul is much more dedicated/hard-working (he toughed it out during Boston's drought seasons) and a much better leader. Anthony had his chance to prove that he could be a good leader but has not even done so yet (he always lets other guys take the role while he is the co-pilot).

Bosh, Dwayne, Lebron - players from the same draft class that were able to step up as leaders for their franchise but you notice how Carmelo has not done the same as these guys and he has been in the league as long as those aforementioned players. That makes me question his ability to step up when he needed most and makes me come to the conclusion that he will be nothing more than a really good role player. Too bad because he has the skill and potential to do wonders in the NBA.

Paul Pierce has been through a lot of adversity but toughed it out and now he has a championship ring and a finals MVP. He is a good example of how patience and hard work will work out well for you in the long run. Carmelo seems to be waiting for an easy opportunity to win a championship (e.g Iverson and now Billups).

Call Pierce an actress or princess all you want but he is the better player IMO.

I forgot to add that Paul Pierce has a very sick fade away shot.

Melo is still moderately young, and has always played with a stud. When he's the captain of the team, I think it will tell a different story.

They have the exact same numbers through their first 6 years, Pierce has proven he can maintain those numbers. So its gotta be Pierce

Piercr is a more complete player. I think Carmelo is the better leader.

I don't know, but in a draft I would take Carmelo. 6'9". Great scorer, great finisher. Has he ever missed the playoffs? I think once.

The Truth was false the middle of this decade. He was a great player ( I used to think he was so underrated. On season he had like 35.6 a game and no one was talking about him), but he couldn't shoulder the load like Melo could.

I think Pierce is. He's had more experience, and has actually gone all the way and won a championship. He is also the backbone of the Celtics team and has a true veteran status in Boston. Melo is still reasonably new to the league, and hasn't really taken upon that leadership role like Pierce has developed over the years.

I thought Paul Pierce was beasting during that time, but Melo was able to take on the load. Their situation are quite comparable, and Melo has the better record.

You're forgetting that Carmelo also had billups last season, billups is one of the reasons the nuggets were in the playoffs, btw billups is underrated, people seem to forget all the work hes done in detroit.

Carmelo is not quite as good as a defender or creator for teammates, but he is a more efficient scorer and a better rebounder. I think Carmelo is better.

Being a Celtic fan I think it is Carmelo. Pierce is very good, but Carmelo is a better all-around player and Pierce is more of a Iso/Shooter type and thats it.

Yes he did, But carmelo does more with nothing then pierce does, Pierce has ray allen and rondo by his side while melo had billups and JR smith. I think if you put Melo in pierces spot that team would get better

For the time being I think it's Pierce, but that could change this year. With Billups as sort of a mentor, Anthony finally seems to be getting it. He is starting to realize what it takes to win the big games.

Pierce already knows what it takes, and has proven he can come through in the clutch as evidenced by his Finals MVP. Pierce isn't flashy, but he is solid and he is extremely crafty. He is not the most athletic guy, but he know how to play defense and use his body to his advantage. He just knows all of the little things it takes to win games. The guy is a winner.

This could be the year that Carmelo surpasses Pierce. Pierce is getting a little long in the tooth, and Carmelo is going to have a big year.

Pierce is better defender and is more all around player,his game is better especially in the playoffs.He's aslo more clutch,i take Pierce but Melo will change that later

I think this is one of the closest player comparisons in basketball.

KB24 pretty much summed up my ideas, Carmelo did more with nothing.

Melo did more in a cocky team but Pierce showed so much more in the playoffs
