Basketball question-what do you need to qualify for GOAT?

if MJ only won 3-4 rings, I would have Magic as the GOAT

I know Kibret thinks that rings shouldn't be factor. He has an interesting opinion but I can't agree.

Like if LeBron ends up having almost every single NBA record but has 0 rings, some people will call him the GOAT because of his individual accomplishments, but I would disagree because I feel that you need to win at least three rings.

I always say a player has to win 7 rings,6 Finals MVPs,and 6 MVPs to be GOAT

this hypothetical player may be the GOAT if they accomplish it

but even if they do break it they have to have an influence on the game and revolutionize it in a way

I think what makes Jordan GOAT is the fact that he revolutionized the game and players take after him today. The fact that NBA players when they were younger say "I want to be like Michael Jordan when I grow up" makes him GOAT.

Magic was great but he didnt influence the game and generation like Jordan did. Bill Russell influenced the defensive aspect of basketball in a way though.

The fact is people will always say "I want to be like Michael Jordan" makes him the GOAT. If they say that about another player thats when you can call them the GOAT I think

Yeah, rings should not be a factor really. The best way to determine is to watch in my opinion.

If the player is very good, the stats and trophies will come along, so that is where you can derive the pool of players eligible, but once it gets down to that select group, you just have to watch, and make an informed decision.

there is no doubt the LeBron is the most freakishly best athlete in NBA history, and he will break a shit ton of records, but he needs to win a few to be GOAT

Perception of reality is rarely ever reality. Because people growing up said "I wanna be like Mike" doesn't mean that he revolutionized the game. In fact I find that argument to be solely based on emotional appeal instead of logical appeal, it's purely subjective therefore it can't be judged on a standard that we agree on.

I love MJ, he was amazing and I admired him growing up. That doesn't make my opinion of him true however.

It's almost like what Hoopdream said yesterday, just because 100,000 people say one thing, doesn't make it a fact. I can get thousands of people to say that the sky is pink. Does that mean it's true?

The GOAT will always be debatable thats why nobody could pass one person because everybody makes there argument as GOAT
