Which team is your team of the year for 2010?

I know for most teams there are two seasons within a calendar year, and I took into consideration with my superlatives:

1. UConn Women's Basketball Team

Why: They won the 2010 National Championship capping off a second straight undefeated season with a second straight 39-0 record. The Huskies went on to win their first 12 games of the 2010-2011 season and lost today to Stanford, 71-59 on the road. 90 game winning streak, a Division I record, well above the 2nd highest mark of 70 games in a row, also set by the Huskies.

2. USA Senior Men's Basketball Team for the 2010 FIBA World Championships

Why: The US of A won their fourth FIBA world championship, their first since 1994. The US senior men's basketball team also featured no players from the 2008 Olympic squad that won it all which made their accomplishment more notable. Kudos to Coach K, his staff, and the men who represented the US well.

3. Los Angeles Lakers

Why: The Lakers had a 57-25 regular season which included 2 losses to the Cleveland Cavaliers which had the NBA's best regular season record for the 2nd straight year. However, the Playoffs is the beginning of the Lakers' real season, and they won their 16th NBA championship avenging on their 2008 Finals loss to the Boston Celtics. Kobe now one ups Shaq and Tim, and Phil Jackson one ups Red Auerbach. Ron Artest thanks his psychologist and auctions his ring off for charity money toward mental health.

Phil Jackson's Bulls and Lakers teams thus far have won championships in threepeats. Can the Lakers do it again this June when the Spurs are runnin' and with the Mavs holding a deeper roster? Oh yeah, how can they handle the Heat?

4. Seattle Storm

Why: The Storm tied a WNBA record 28 wins in the regular season and won the 2010 championship, the 2nd championship in team history. They also were undefeated at home for the entire season including the playoffs. By winning their second championship, the Storm broke a streak of five straight 1st round playoff losses under the Sue Bird and Lauren Jackson era. The rest of the Western Conference teams had losing records, including the 2009 Champions, the Phoenix Mercury. In the playoffs, fans of the Mystics and the Liberty were skeptical about how good this Seattle team was. Was their record inflated because the rest of the West clearly sucked? The Eastern Conference had a field day overall against the West in 2010 which contributed to the West having bad records. Or was the Storm just head and shoulders above everyone else?

Well, after their banner year this season, the answer is the latter. With five former Olympians (Sue Bird and Swin Cash are the Americans; Lauren Jackson played for Australia; Svetlana Abrosimova for Russia; and Jana Vesela for the Czech Republic), a three time MVP in Jackson, a former Finals MVP in Swin Cash, okay, the list goes on and on. This team was accomplished and still in its prime. And they can do it again in 11.

I don't care about the 2010 so much

It's new year already here,so 2011 FTW!

The Lakers just because they repeated and now a days in sports it is a challenge to win back to back.

UConn women's basketball team of course.

Their uber-loooong winning streak is what made me go with them.
It does not matter that they are a women's basketball team. The fact that you are able to win that many consecutive games shows how good this team is with regards to chemistry, basketball skill, among other things needed to be a successful basketball team. That is just...impressive.

Have to vote for UConn women. Any time you can set a consecutive wins record and dominate like that it's special. I don't watch women's basketball but you got to give it up for that
