Philadelphia 76'ers
Who owns them?
Comcast Spectacor is the owner. The Chairman is Ed Snider who owns 37%, Comcast owns the other 63% and bought the stake from Snider back in 1996 when Spectacor bought the Sixers. Comcast Spectacor is a sports management and entertainment company based in Philadelphia founded in 1974 when Snider first owned the NHL's Philadelphia Flyers and the legendary Spectrum Arena.
Does Ownership own other teams and facilities?
Yes. As stated before, Spectacor owns the NHL's Philadelphia Flyers. They also own the Wells Fargo Center, their home arena, which hosts both teams as well as the National Lacrosse League's Philadelphia Wings; the AFL's Philadelphia Soul, and hosts major home games for the Villanova University basketball teams.
Spectacor also owns Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia, one of the regionals sports channels in the area. It also manages a number of arenas outside the Philly area, including the Value City Center located in Columbus, OH which houses the Ohio State University basketball and hockey teams; and the University of Phoenix Stadium in Phoenix, AZ which houses the Arizona Cardinals and the Fiesta Bowl.
Do I think that Ownership is doing a good job?
Nope. On the court, the team did have somewhat overachieving years in 2007-08 and 2008-09 where they made the playoffs, but there just wasn't a superstar or some other closer on this team who could bring it to the next level. The good news about this team is that they have a collection of young talent now including Lou Williams, Jrue Holiday, Thaddeus Young, and Evan Turner among others, but so far no one is totally standing out to be a complement to Andre Igoudala. The team is in the middle of rebuilding around a new coach in Doug Collins, and it remains to be seen how well a new foundation will do in Philly.
The bigger problem is how the team is doing in the stands. Only 70-80% of the arena has been filled on average since Iverson left the first time. Not good. Especially when Philadelphia is a basketball rich city, and the franchise here has a lot of great history including being home of one of the NBA's greatest players ever in Wilt Chamberlain, getting Dr. J and Moses where they win an NBA title in 1983, and getting to see a young Charles Barkley, not to mention Iverson who was a hell of a scorer and competitor. This is a traditional and storied team in a basketball city, and they can't fill it up? Wow.... Season tickets here are reasonable, and they give a lot of benefits such as credits for additional tickets and food vouchers plus the normal discounts and STH only events.... At least the owners are trying, but I don't know exactly how they want to improve.
