I HATE when people put players from the 60's in the top 10. The only one who deserves to be there is Russell because of his impact on the game defensively. The dude would be sucessful even in today's era. Big O put up some Big Stats...but he was really a forward, not a PG. And in a league with 6'6 centers...his numbers just aren't that impressive. West, meh, he was good, but definitely NOT a top 10 player. Top 20 at best. Olajuwon is top 10 talent wise, but the dude didn't put up AMAZING numbers. If Olajuwon is in your top 10...TD most certainly should be as well. Pippen...I think its self explanatory. The dude is NOT a top 10 player of all time. Period. Not even close.

The real top 10: (imo)

1. Michael Jordan
2. Magic Johnson
3. Bill Russell
4. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
5. Larry Bird
6. Shaquille O'Neal
7. Wilt Chamberlain
8. Tim Duncan

robertson? when centers were 6'6?
err, you have bill russell at 3rd. wilt at 7th.

scoring-wise, west was the most consistent pre-jordan.
hakeem is probably the most versatile player. over 7 foot, top 10 in reb., stl., pts., and top blocker all-time? not to mention, by far the greatest footwork. he was a guard in a center's body (without the dribbling, passing)
whoever youre playing, a triple double is frikkin hard to get. whenever your playing, averaging a trouble double for a whole damn season is just unexplainable.
pippen - greatest defender all time. over payton. olajuwon. jabbar. jordan. russell.

I had Russell and Chamberlain because of their IMPACT toward the game. Robertson didn't impact much. We already had Cousy, just as flashy if not more than Robertson. Umm...consistency shouldn't be a main reason that a player is in the top 10...so West shouldn't be there. The top 10 is based on primarily talent, and while West was great he wasn't a top 10 player. Hakeem is in my top 10 if you didn't notice...so no argument there. And no, it's not hard to get triple doubles when there's no three second violation, you're way taller than the person guarding you, and Kareem is your teammate. Pippen the GOAT defender? He's in consideration, but top 10 players excell in more than one area. Pippen excelled in defense. On offense, he was nothing short of good. Using this logic...Ben Wallace is a top 50 player, Rodman is a top 25 player. See what I mean?

there was a 3 second violation in the 60's

It started in 1945, i believe 2 or 3 years after the league started.

It is also hard to make a list based on the different eras of basketball. I disagree with everyone that said wilt wouldn't do well now. Had a higher vert then freaking dwight howard, and hes 7'1. Which is always good Very Happy

My list,if i was going with,i would go with these guys

1.Michael Jordan
2.Bill Russell
3.Oscar Robertson
4.Wilt Chamberlain
5a:Larry Bird
5b:Earvin 'Magic; Johnson
6.Shaquille O'Neal
7.Tim Duncan
8.Julius Erving
9.John Havlicek
10.Kobe Bryant

Honorable Mention:Scottie Pippen,Moses Malone,Jerry West,Hakeem Olajuown

But then again, there are too many great players who played in different eras with its adventigies and disadventigies so actually there might be no G.O.A.T,not one who stands above else but best of all time in certain areas of basketball such as for example

Biggest Modern Champ:Michael Jordan(6/6 in the Finals in the era of modern basketball)
Biggest Champ:Bill Russell(11/11 in era of bunch of Hall Of Famers,he got the best of them every time and he got the championships)
Biggest Winner:Magic Johnson(he had just about 72% winning percent! wow)
Most complete ever:Oscar Robertson(Triple double for hall 5 years, won a ring in his career with Kareem, despite not playing with good team mates)
Best body for the NBA:Kareem(22 years in good shape, most productive offensive player ever)
Most Dominating in prime:Wilt Chamberlain(30/20/8/8,beast.....)
Most Unstopable Player Ever:Shaquille O'Neal
etc

I would disagree with Khai. The 60's had some of the greatest players to play in the NBA.Bill Russell changed the game and dominated with his defense, that's the true reason why he was the greatest defender ever,he used defense to win 11 championships, that's why he's the greatest champion of all time,he made guys around him Hall Of Famers and was also the greatest shot blocker,he stopped many times the M.D.E Wilt from like 50 ppg to 38 ppg, from 39 to 28 against him and in the playoffs even better like to 27,5 ppg and sometimes better

Wilt Chamberlain is the Most Dominating Ever because he was the most athletic, strongest and one of the most smartest players ever.He was capable of getting 30 points,20 rebounds and 8 blocks in his prime which is fantastic. He used his domination to dominate every where, over 60 NBA records are his....he was amazing defender as well.He had like triple double vs Russell!

Oscar Robertson to me is the greatest Point Guard and most complete of all time.He possed all the things for a Point Guard,he dominated his spot and is also the greatest rebounding Point Guard.Jerry West was the most consistent scorer before Jordan,Baylor was awsome forward but many of these players got damaged from Bill Russell championship domination. In fact Big O was damaged for not having capable team mates,Wilt had all good teams,West and Baylor tried and tried but many of those failed because Russell got is eye sharp on the prize and delivered his best in the playoffs and he won.Russell's 10-0 in the 7th Finals Game and 11-11 in the Finals is amazing accomplishment,so getting a ring in Jordan's and Russell's championship time is a big honor

The 80's,90's,00's and the 70's have their own adventigies

i might be late to respond to this.
pippen was the second best player in the nba during his bulls days. first? his teammate, jordan. if it wasnt for MJ pippen would have won an mvp, possibly more. when you think of people who drew some attention away from jordan, you dont think of kerr or grant, rodman or kukoc. it was pippen. teams didnt center defenses to gaurd mj and mj alone. a zone excels at stopping multiple forces. if teams wanted to shut jordan down and leave everyone else alone to score, theres a box and one, a triangle and two, and traps that were designed to stop one man shows.

west, by consistency, i meant he poured points night after night after night. also, probably the most clutch player outside of the mj's. he was smaller, he didn't have the heighth advantage that russell and chamberlain had. he created many modern day moves that nobody knows of. pretty much the first player to dominate a driving lane. THAT is impact.

See what I mean?

i might be late to respond to this.
pippen was the second best player in the nba during his bulls days. first? his teammate, jordan. if it wasnt for MJ pippen would have won an mvp, possibly more. when you think of people who drew some attention away from jordan, you dont think of kerr or grant, rodman or kukoc. it was pippen. teams didnt center defenses to gaurd mj and mj alone. a zone excels at stopping multiple forces. if teams wanted to shut jordan down and leave everyone else alone to score, theres a box and one, a triangle and two, and traps that were designed to stop one man shows.

west, by consistency, i meant he poured points night after night after night. also, probably the most clutch player outside of the mj's. he was smaller, he didn't have the heighth advantage that russell and chamberlain had. he created many modern day moves that nobody knows of. pretty much the first player to dominate a driving lane. THAT is impact.

West was a consistent scorer, true that and dangerious shooter as well.He was dominating but there was a guy named Russell who beat everyone for his rings.Russell was like 6'9/6'10 so he wasn't really tall,Wilt was 7'1 but he wasn't the tallest in his time....
