Don Nelson got his 1333rd win in his NBA coaching career against the Timberwolves tonight in Minnesota. There has been speculation all season that Nellie only returned to the Warriors to surpass Lenny Wilkins record of 1332 wins, and that he would retire if and when he surpassed Wilkins and held the new record. As a Warrior fan, I couldn't be happier that he has surpassed the record this season, now that he has even less incentive to come back and coach Golden State next season. Nelson is due to make nearly 6 million dollars in salary next season.

Hopefully, now that he's pretty much done everything there is to do as a coach (minus win a championship, but that isn't going to happen at this point), he forgoes the money and chooses to retire to a big fat ham in Hawaii. If he is gone next season, who do you think are possible replacements as coach? I'll throw some names out just for discussion:

Keith Smart (Warriors current top assistant)
Avery Johnson
Mark Jackson (eh)
Byron Scott (hate the guy, so please no)
Mo Cheeks
Eddie Jordan

Nelson accomplishments:
3 Coach of the Year awards
250+ wins with 3 different teams
13 teams with 50+ wins
1333 career wins

Avery Johnson can put the warriors back into line lol
all the warriors need is an injury prone season
and a proper fuckin gm.. who the fuck trades away stephen jackons
the taem captain for two worthless bums (diaw + radmonovic)

warriors have a good young lineup if they dont get injured

G - Curry
G - Ellis
F - Kelenna Azubuike
F - Tolliver or Magette whoever they decide to play sixth man pref. Magette
C- Randolph
btw wtf is anthony randolph he was picked to improve alot this year lmao
i havent heard shit on him aint he injured?

but go with Avery Johnson he has good playoff exp.
can talk some sense into the homeless warriors,

Diaw is no bum he is a very skilled player and he was not part of that trade Raja Bell was. And Bell is not a bum either he is a pretty good scorer and an excellent defender. That trade was pretty bogus though even though Steve Jax was on his way out anyways.

larry riley (gm) is Nelson's good buddy. Jackson wanted out and away from Nelson. So they all came together to dump him. Yes stupid and I wish Nelson hadn't backstabbed Chris Mullin, our former GM.

doubt randolph @ C, and Tolliver being a starting player next season. btw randolph was having issues with nelson before his season ending injury.

^^^lol agree there Tony

He's accomplished his goal of beating Lenny's record (I saw the joy in his face when he tied Lenny's record after that win against the Raps) - so my assumption is that he will not return as coach for GSW next season.

As for coach in the future; my guess is that Keith Smart will be Nelson's successor as head coach. I am not sure if Avery will come back to coach the Warriors (eeek, I did not mean that in a rude way at all btw). If not Smart, perhaps Mo Cheecks?! I could be wrong with my assumptions here though. Or maybe Eddie Jordan. But the best choice I feel would be Avery. Smile

The genius behind Boston's championship team's defense in Tom Thibodeau has been seeking a head coaching job for quite a while as well. He may be just the guy the Dubs need and is worthy of being given a chance. The Celts aren't gonna get much better defensively with the current roster they have anyways. Tom worked under Jeff Van Gundy.

YES. THANK GOD. SOMETHING TO BE HAPPY ABOUT THIS SEASON...

this season = Hawaii Bound! 902265

today = Hawaii Bound! 304685

Nellie's gone now. Our new coach should be Keith Smart. He's NBA ready and is a shit load better than any name you threw out there since he UNDERSTANDS small ball which is what the Warriors need to play to succeed and he's a pretty damn good defensive coach too. Of course there are better coaches out there like Avery, JVG and such but they wouldn't understand Nellieball. Keith Smart is a Nellie disciple so obviously he knows it. KEITH. SMART. FOR. COACH!

Warriors are going though an ownership change, like the Wizards, and the Pistons. I think in order to keep their value high, Nelson should be encouraged to resign.

Yeah I heard about that as well.

I read an article stating that Nelson wanted to help improve Biedrins FT percentage next season.
