Their contracts matches up. Jeffries is the only player the Knicks have that has a contract that expires past the 2010 off-season. Getting Collison wouldn't change that because the Knicks will tack on Nick's contract, which also expires after the 2010 off-season.
However, NY gets rid of Jeffries who has taken himself for a shooter these last couple of seasons and really tries to be something he is not a shooter taking ill advised jumpers. In fact, he is 1 of the biggest offensive liabilities in the NBA.
He is a sound defender and can bring the ball up the floor, pass, and rebound, is pretty versatile. It's just this resistance to not try and be something he isn't has hurt us.
Collison would know his role he would rebound, score better than Jeffries, and play d. Jeffries will give OKC a much needed defender that can play all 5 positions. Maybe, there he would not think himself as a shooter.
