"Time to move on" Larry Brown is stepping down as Bobcats head coach after an unsatisfactory 9-19 start.

| Yeah they agreed a change was needed and brown wanted to win and mj wanted to win, so a mutual decision was reached for brown to step down. he wasnt fired. they both agreed he should step down. | |

| The Espn article even says under a jordan quote "what jordan had to say on coach larry brown stepping down"
stepping down is an option. its not always quitting or firing

| I'm pretty sure the convo was like this:
MJ (in his office at Time Warner calling on the intercom to Larry in his office): Larry, please come in my office immediately. Larry: Sure (walks to MJ's office)
In Mike's office, Mike, Fred Whitfield the Bobcats President, and the GM Rod Higgins are all there.
MJ: Larry, as you know and we discussed recently, the team's performance has not been at the standard that I expected for this season. Furthermore, we have made a number of considerable moves to the team to your liking, and the success we had last season clearly isn't sustained. Unfortunately, I will terminate your contract with the Charlotte Bobcats, effective immediately. You will have until the end of the day to pack your belongings and you will be escorted out of the building by our security staff. Do you understand?
Larry: Mr. Jordan?
MJ: Yes.
Larry: Mr. Jordan, as you know, things clearly didn't work out the way I had hoped with the players on this team. However, as I told you over the past several months, I was not fully 100% on coming back to the team.
MJ: Larry, you were on a contract for the next two seasons. So you were expected to be back. If I didn't think you'd be back this year, your contract wouldn't have went through this year. If you really want to uh, "save face", if you will, I can have our public relations department say in your statement that we all came to the mutual agreement that the team was not heading in the right direction, and that you also believed that your departure was a good move for the team as well. Is that fine with you?
Larry: Yes Mr. Jordan. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to coach your team and best of luck in the future.
MJ: Same to you Larry. As your contract states, you will still be paid your salary over this season and next. Should you take another job with an NBA team, if your new salary is less than your current salary with the Bobcats, we will only pay the difference. If it is higher than your current salary, then payments will cease. Here's a couple boxes for your belongings.
So CBI, Larry Brown was fired, I don't care what way you look at it. It's not like the Hawks coach not getting his contract renewed where in a way it looks like he was fired, but in reality his contract just ended. Jordan probably either demanded a resignation immediately from Brown or get terminated with no more pay, or like the above scenario above, when Brown was shown the door, Jordan still gave him an opportunity to leave on a mutual agreement to save face for one of the league's great coaches.

| Yes I did make it up cbi, but the idea I am putting up is what I think happened (not necessarily the words).
what I'm trying to say here is though we in the public are going to look at this move as if Larry Brown resigned and that's it, Michael's comments didn't fully corroborate with that saying that. Sure he said that both sides agree that a change was necessary. If I were Jordan and I fired Brown, but he agreed with my decision that we needed change, then I'd write something close to the press release. If Brown truly resigned on his own, then I'd say up front that he resigned effective immediately, and add something to the effect that I did not want him to leave, but that he believed this was for the best of the team, and I then agreed. I guess it's legalese or PR talk, but if someone was just going to resign, I'd leave it at that and add that it was truly the other guy's decision.

| it says larry brown AGREED that a change was needed. for him to AGREE with MJ that had to have been mikes opinion that A CHANGE WAS NEEDED becuz you cant agree with somethin that isnt that person who your agreeing with opinion....stop being retarded james..he got fired | |
