Perhaps, but we can say this about every team. Even Sacramento or Milwaukee could play above their heads all season long and get in the playoffs with room to spare.
Every year, there is an NBA team who everyone believes will make the playoffs, but just tanks or underachieves. Phoenix is an example of such a team. They were expected to be a playoff team, albeit not a contender. There also is a team that people think will not make the playoffs and instead does. Last year, a lot of folks though Miami despite having Wade would fail to get in, but they were the 5th seed.
I doubt Antonio Daniels will get traded to New York from Minnesota since he will provide veteran leadership and is effective in short stretches and rarely makes dumb turnovers. Stackhouse will not play for NYC since they won't be a championship contender this year at least on paper, unless David Lee has a Dwight Howard-esque season.
Keys for Knicks in the Playoffs as constructed are:
1. Outscore your opponents
2. Lee should be the physical defender down low. Sure he's not a typical center, but he's a lot better than every center on the Wizards (and most NBA teams), except maybe Haywood. I wish we made a move for him at the MLE to be honest.
3. Lee must be the dominator on offense down low. He's their best big man and the teams' franchise player.
4. on the perimeter, let Duhon and Nate make good decisions and pass to the other shooters and scorers like Harrington and Chandler
5. Hope Eddy Curry makes a good comeback after last year's horrendous off the court issues, such as him allegedly inviting an assistant to masturbate with him, and dealing w/ the murders of his family. Also Jordan Hill and Milicic need to be effective as well if Curry still isn't. The other partner in crime down low with Lee who'll be best in my opinion is Darko since he is a pretty good defender and initimidating shot blocker. I don't care if he was a bust or not based on his draft position (Antonio Daniels is considered a bust too by many), he at least has value on defense.
