Notes:
1. Gilbert Arenas is scheduled to make over $19 million in 2011-2012, and has a cap hit of a little over $62.4 million over the next three seasons. His new cap hit is now $35.6 million over those next three years, which is a loss of 43%. He therefore gets special payments of 25% of the total lost amount ($26,783,766.00), which is $6,695,941.50. 25% of that is paid immediately, and the rest must be paid by the time his deal expires.

Arenas's salary drops to the applicable max salary for a player with 8 years experience NBA, as his current contract was signed with the Washington Wizards starting in the 2008-2009 season, his 8th in the league. The contract is in its fourth year for the 2011-2012 season, so Arenas gets a max salary for the 4th season.

2. Dwight Howard is scheduled to make nearly 18 million bucks in 2011-2012, and his total cap hit over two seasons is over $37 million. He signed his 5 year current contract effective in the 2008-2009 season, his 5th in the league. His contract drops to the applicable new max salary for those years, being the fourth and fifth years. The new cap hit drops to $19.2 million which is a 48% loss. Howard gets a special payment for a quarter of the difference of the $17,946,600.00 loss, which totals $4,486,650.00, and he must get at least 25% of that immediately.

3. Turkoglu, Redick, and Nelson all are making over $5 million in 2011-2012 but less than $12 million, so their salaries drop 20% a year for all the years remaining on their deals.

4. All the other guys' checks remain the same.

The good news for the Magic:

Gilbert Arenas who has been a 7th man at best for them has his cap hit reduced pretty seriously, any drop in his salary is a good thing for them.
Hedo Turkoglu is also overpaid, and his salary drops to a more reasonable level though you can argue that it's still too much.
Dwight Howard's salary drops by almost half. The 2013-2014 season's cap hit is $27.3 million, more than enough to re-sign him to another max contract if he continues to play like Shaq,

The bad news for the Magic:

After all the cuts, the Magic's total cap hit for 2011-2012 is at $55.2 million. While it's under the cap, it still limits them from signing free agents, so some of their players will likely have to be traded away including Clark, Duhon, and Richardson.
They still have Gilbert Arenas on the team, who is limiting their financial flexibility.

Overall, I say that the Magic are in good shape under the circumstances, since they sure as hell still have Dwight. Some core players like Hedo are paid a lot to do what they do, but they are still in better shape than the Lakers in the short term and the long term.

Notes on the Players originally making over $12 million in 2011-2012:
1. LeBron James and Chris Bosh signed their current contracts with the Cleveland Cavaliers and Toronto Raptors respectively, effective in the 2010-2011 season, their 8th in the league as both entered the league in the same year. Their cap hits before the hard cap is at $95.3 million each. After the new cap, their hits drop to $55.8 million each which is a 41.4% drop in salary. They get special payments of $9,884,375.00 each (25% of the total loss of their contract values), and 25% of this payment is payable immediately.

2. Dwyane Wade's contract pre-hard cap is slighty smaller than James and Bosh's. He signed his current contract with the Miami Heat effective in the 2010-2011 season, his 8th in the NBA. His cap hit drops to 55.8 million from 92.6 millions so he gets paid the same amount that his sidekicks make a 39.8% loss. He gets payments too, in the total amount of $9,220,000.00.

Notes on Players making between $5 million to $12 million in 2011-2012 pre-hard cap
1. Mike Miller thankfully is the only player who takes a pay cut, and he loses 20%.

Good news for Miami
1. The team's cap hit for the 2011-2012 season is now under $45 million. Enough to add free agents at salaries more than the minimum.
2. The Big three's combined salary isn't over 50% of the cap in 2011-2012. Assuming the cap never changes, in 2015-2016, their combined salary is still well under 2/3 of the hard cap.

Bad news for Miami
1. No more max free agents can sign here comfortably, if the player has been in the league over 3 years.

Overall, Miami is in great shape though the Big Three may be pouting over the fact that they lost a ton of money overnight.

Notes
1. Kevin Durant is the only player scheduled to make over $12 million in 2011-2012, and for good reason, if the old CBA were in effect. He signed a 5 year contract that goes into effect in 2011-2012. With the new CBA, his contract is readjusted to the new max levels to give him $43.5 million over five years, down from a total cap hit of $82.3 million like the original extension. This is a 47% drop, so KD will get special payments totaling $9,700,960.00 (25% of the total loss of contract value which was $38,803,840.00), with 25% of that payable immediately.
2. Kendrick Perkins is the only other player not on a rookie scale contract and with a pre-hard cap salary of over $5 million but below $12 million in 2011-2012, and his contract goes down 20%.
3. Everyone else's salary stays the same. Russell Westbrook is scheduled to be paid over $5 million in 2011-2012, but this is part of his rookie scale contract.

The Good News
1. The Thunder were under the hard cap threshold of $60 million even before adjusting KD's and KP's salaries. To add onto that, they have 12 guys under contract, many of those guys still on rookie deals or at least on reasonably priced contracts.
2. The Thunder can sign Russell Westbrook to a max deal in 2012-2013, where they will have about $24 million in cap room assuming the cap remains the same.
3. KD's salary still goes up from this season to next.

The Bad News
1. KD lost a lot of potential money, which is over 35% of his contract, after he gets all the special payment money. But then again, he's not alone in that department.

Overall note
All I have to say is that the Thunder will be VERY scary in the era of the Hard Cap.

This is what the NBA would like, I'd like something close to this as well.

Most players in the NBA who are making the 8 figure salaries are also making considerable other monies in other areas so they should be fine. Yes, this loss hurts, but it's gotta hit someone, and the players making less shouldn't be getting hit as hard as those who are making more. It's socialism, yes, but salaries like these make a hard cap feasible and allow every team a realistic chance to compete.
