Manu to ATL this summer?

Unless the Hawks make it to the ECF or the finals, I think Joe Johnson is done in ATL. There are a lot of rumors about him being interested in the Knicks and there are gonna be about 4 teams interested in him, and all of them will be able to offer more money then the Hawks.

Johnson is making 2 million more than Manu this year and will likely sign a bigger contract than him because Manu is going to be 33 and is more injury prone now. I think the Hawks are gonna try and replace JJ somehow by spending less and using left over money to sign a big. They could get Manu for like 7 million a year and give him a starting spot. I think manu would like that more than what the Spurs would offer him..

I'm pretty darn sure that JJ will bolt for the money....
So..I could see the Hawks signing Manu as a consolation...

But I don't know if the Spurs will get rid of him..
I mean....obviously the Spurs want to get younger....but I think Manu will give them a discount or something like that...

yeah but Manu has his rings... If a team is offering more money and playing time, why would he stay with the spurs?

and like you said.. the spurs are trying to get younger. They might offer Manu a contract and if he declines the first one, I doubt they'll offer another one

Why would he go after money and not go after more rings?

it's not like Atlanta is a bad team... They're in better position to win a championship in the near future compared to the spurs. The Hawks need like one more piece [big guy] and they'll be set.

Hawks w/o JJ vs Spurs w/ TD? I take the Spurs...

If JJ left...the Hawks would in no way compete for the championship...

thats just as good maybe even a little bit better than the current hawks team. The spurs are just getting older and Jefferson didn't turn out good.. They have no shot at getting past the lakers/nuggets/mavs even with tim duncan. The hawks are a great big man away from being able to beat the magic and cavs and going to the finals

From what I've read, Manu is seriously considering going back overseas to play out the remainder of his playing days.

if he does that.. then he's def. not in it for the money... I don't think Argentina [if he plays there] is gonna pay him more than an NBA team.. or maybe they would hahaha

i heard a few weeks ago that he WASNT gonna play for argentina over the summer because he doesnt wanna risk getting injured for the nba

Though, it would be really disappointing to see Manu go; he is like my 2nd favourite Spurs player and he has contributed so much to the team over the years...uhh, hopefully...he stays in SA.

I think it depends on how manu feels about playing time.. he hasn't complained about it a lot while he has been on the spurs, but that's because they were winning... but as a great player, you would think that he wants to be on the floor more.... and he plays great when he plays 30+ min

But he is so accustomed to coming off the bench for so many years...why would he all the sudden request more minutes? Especially since he is kinda injury prone...wouldn't he want what is best for him and the team?

but he has started the past few games and he is playing great... don't you think that he might be thinking what it would be like if he always started?

theres a good chance he re-signs with the spurs.. but I think theres a better chance he goes somewhere else

He'd have plenty of backup in ATL. If he played SF/SG he'd have Crawford and Marvin backing him up.

It just sounds weird if he went to ATL. But, if any team would be willing to overpay for an older player with some playoff experience it would be the Hawks.
