| Subject: #12 Georgetown beats #3 Notre Dame in a historic women's game for the Hoyas Sun Feb 21, 2010 9:25 am | |
| http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/womens-basketball/recap?gid=20100220022976-66 Hoyas The Hoyas are having a historic year to say the least. They now have wins against ranked teams including then #25 St. Johns, and now #3 Notre Dame. Freshman guard Sugar Rodgers has been the BGOC leading the team in scoring and 2nd in assists. Georgetown also had a record 16 game winning streak. What an amazing turnaround for a team that typically is the Big East doormat every year and also has subpar athletic facilites as well when compared with other Big East teams like Connecticut, Pitt, WVU, Rutgers, and Notre Dame. At G-Town, men's basketball is clearly king, and always will be, but this year, with the G-Town men playing pretty damn well again, the performance of the women's team is just being overlooked, even here in the DC area and women's basketball overall where UConn is the only word we know. With this game, the Hoyas consistently lead throughout the game, though the Irish came close during several points and at 5 minutes, ND got the game to 62-60, but couldn't get any closed from that point. The Fighting Irish took its second straight loss, coming off a 76-71 defeat last Tuesday against #23 St. John's, which is also having a record year. The losses are surprising to me because Notre Dame looked head and shoulders above every team except UConn until now. They Hoyas get to play Big East doormat (for this season) Villanova on the road, then come back to McDonough to play Jacksonville state in a rescheduled match. Then on this Saturday, their game of the year. They head over to Connecticut and will attempt to spoil their seniors night, most notably for Tina Charles. Visa right now is saying, "Go Hoyas!" I want to see the upset. This G-Town game is UConn's potential 68th straight win, as the Huskies next game (and potential 67th straight win) game will be this Wednesday against arch rival (in name only) Syracuse who is also having a record year with an 18-7 record thus far, but the Orange have all 7 losses to Big East teams so their NCAA hopes are dropping... | |
