| The Cavs have already sold a ton of season tickets from last year which helps the team's revenues and bottom lines, and at least some of the bandwagon Cleveland fans in the area have turned into real fans in the post LeBron era. Also, we have to add the fact that they are running really high on Cleveland and Ohio pride, so they are doing this to make a statement to some degree.
I got no idea if the Cavs will still be like this next season.

| Uhh, do you realize that season ticket holders are counted towards the overall attendance? So a LOT of people bought tickets last year thinking LeBron would come back...so while they might be 2nd in "attendance", but they're at least 20th in terms of people showing up to the games, maybe even worse. | |

They do make a big difference to keep attendance figures up. Season tickets, especially full season tickets are the blood of the franchise especially with the fanbase. With NBA arenas, about half to two thirds of the arena is available to be used for season tickets, full or partial. The NBA however does mandate that there are at least 500 seats (I think it's around that) reserved on a single ticket basis at $10.00/game, and also that a portion of seats must be available as single game tickets, unlike the NFL where a substantial number of teams don't have any single game tickets available, like the Washington Redskins where every seat is a season ticket seat, and the only seats available are club seats which are much more expensive.

- They have the breakdown over at Sports Business Daily, and while the Cavaliers 53% decrease in viewership is easily the biggest drop in the NBA, the Cavaliers are still drawing a 4.07 - good for seventh-best in the NBA this year. The Cavaliers' average viewership - 62,000 households per game - is good for 8th in the NBA, not bad for a team with the League's worst record - not to mention a record-breaking losing streak.
This makes me happy | |
