| Subject: Washington Mystics make another Mystake! Is this gonna hit the Wizards now? Wed Nov 03, 2010 9:11 am | |
| http://www.wnba.com/mystics/news/lacey_110110.html http://www.tedstake.com/2010/11/02/mystics-name-combo-coach-and-gm/ http://voices.washingtonpost.com/mystics-insider/2010/11/transcript_of_sheila_johnsons.html Some very Un-Ted like moves here. The Mystics fired their GM, offered their 1st class coach Julie Plank the GM and head coach job, she declined because she just wanted to coach so they told her to kiss Ted's ass. Then they went down to former assistant Trudi Lacey (Who was a HC/GM for the now defunct Charlotte Sting) who is now the Mystics chief... I understand that WNBA teams that have won titles have folded but in DC, more fans come to games when teams win no matter what league it is. Sheila Johnson's comments about not keeping fans informed was kind of expected. But she could have said on Ted's behalf in the beginning after their GM got axed that Monumental Sports is still 100% committed to winning a WNBA championship in 2011 and that they will get the best person for the GM, head coach or whatever. The line that "fans should just have faith" is not a good line to say to fans of a team that's been mediocre at best historically. If the Caps axed McPhee like the Mystics did to Taylor, there will be an uproar. Sure, the Caps lost early in the playoffs, but the man is making some great moves to keep us young, talented, yet still DOMINANT on the ice. And Ted, why didn't you say something more about the Mystics after this happened? Another line about Sheila saying that she's trying to keep the team alive is bullshit. Monumental Sports can much more than absorb any financial loss the Mystics have with the Caps selling out every game, the Wizards increasing season ticket holdership BIG TIME since Wall came to town, not to mention that they get a cut of all ticketmaster revenues in DC and Baltimore. I don't think the other Monumental partners besides Ted are looking to fold the Mystics. Their pictures are all over Verizon Center. And selling the Mystics will guarantee their folding within five years anyway (if they sell at all) and ownership knows it. | |
