http://content.usatoday.com/communities/campusrivalry/post/2010/04/report-west-virginias-dasean-butler-has-acl-tear-mcl-sprain/1

The man with a bit of swaggy-ness (his name is DeShawn with a different twist) and tough juice (Butler, can't get tuff-er) all put into his name and into one body suffered probably the worst possible thing that could happen to a guy with his diploma in hand (yes he is graduating this year), AND in his senior playing season as a college star. A TORN ACL.

This guy was going to be a lotto pick at least. Maybe a Top 10 or better assuming the Colonel's recipe stays in house for at least another year. I have him as the best senior right now in college. And now, this. Will he slip into the 2nd round? Will a lotto team overlook the ACL injury and still draft him in the 1st round? Or will he not get drafted at all, and have to fight to be the next Alonzo Gee or Reggie Williams?

He'll still be a top 15 pick, ACL is an injury that rarely haunts a person. Its almost impossible to tore an acl twice!

You're right that they don't often re-occur, but they are still major injuries. They take a long time to heal and rehab correctly, and if not done right, a player can end up being less than what he was before. Da'Sean will certainly see a drop in his draft stock after an ACL injury, regardless of how his recovery is coming along by the time of the draft. He may still be a top 15 pick, but he would almost assuredly have been a top 10 pick before Saturday.

Can you tell me an athelete who didnt fully recover from an ACL injury? no. I think the nba teams know that and realize this has no effect on his future.

Nene took nearly 2 years to recover successfully from it, and he still doesn't have the same vertical he had before the injury. Livingston is still trying to (his was especially bad, but it's still taken years). Most ACL surgeries now are successful, when they used to not be at all. But after the injury its still hard to get the players knee back to its previous form. I guess it really depends on how bad De'Sean's is. I doubt he'll be fully recovered by the start of the next NBA season.

ACL's definitely aren't career ending, but not all players return to their previous form, for one reason or another. It's no guarantee he'll be the same player, especially considering how much pain he went down in. We'll see, but for now I don't know if he'll be a lottery pick in the draft.

Shaun tore his ACL,MCL, lateral meniscus, and had a patella dislocation. His stock will probably be effected. I don't think it should be,though.
