Women's Tournament: Expected, but unexpected. Empty
PostSubject: Women's Tournament: Expected, but unexpected.   Women's Tournament: Expected, but unexpected. EmptyThu Mar 25, 2010 9:37 pm

My main reactions to the tourney

1. We all know UConn is gonna win the ship barring injuries or serious off the court gaffes.
2. I was impressed with some 1st round upsets such as UW-Green Bay over UVA, Ark-Little Rock over Georgia Tech and San Diego St with a solid victory over the Texas Longhorns. Wasn't pleased that the first day of the tourney had NO lower seeds win, and it's the fourth time it's happened.
3. I am also glad to see two 7 seeds beat 2 seeds. Gonzaga edged out Texas A&M in the second round, and we also saw 7 seed Mississippi State beat 2 seed Ohio State, which I didn't expect to see at all. 11 seed San Diego State continue their run into the sweet 16. The rest of the Sweet 16 is pretty much expected, but it's notable that Kentucky, a 4 seed is also in the sweet 16 with their male brethren, and same for 3 seed Xavier which is a Top 10 team that just isn't in the Big Six.

for the sweet 16, Can Kentucky upset Nebraska or expose them? Also can San Diego State end Duke back home from getting back to the Elite Eight for the first time since 2006? And can the Zags beat Xavier in a battle for the "Best of the Non-Big Six Team" battle for the Elite Eight?

In all, my women's bracket got pwned the first round because I picked too many upsets. WCB is whooping my ass badly.

I don't think it will happen either haha but who knows, this is an 'upset' year.

Well Baylor just beat Tennessee. When they faced each other earlier this year, the Bears lost. If Baylor can beat Duke in the Elite Eight (women are also playing them), they would likely face UConn. Tina Charles and Brittney Griner will have an epic battle that I would love to see. Baylor has a small chance to win this entire tourney and grab championship #2.

On paper, you're right, but to play devil's advocate, Griner has stepped her game up big time. She even has a decent mid range game now too.. UH OHH
