| As you all may realize, the Spurs are having a not-so-hot start so far. Currently, their record is a somewhat disappointing 12-9 and are currently 6th in the West; I was not expecting this at all prior to the start of the regular season.
The Spurs have some good players in Duncan, Parker, Ginobili, RJ and promising young stars in Hill and Blair; as well some other decent role players. Despite this, their record is not really reflecting this.
Right now, I am a bit concerned...I am optimistic that they can make playoffs...but why do I have a tiny feeling that they may miss it (maybe I am being overdramatic because I am used to the Spurs being good...lol.). I know the Spurs are known for turning it up in the 2nd half and finishing strong...but can they this time? If not, what can they do to improve their roster and become a legitimate threat in the league this year?
Thoughts/opinions would be appreciated.
Sue me for making another Spurs thread in the past two days...I am Spurs talk deprived here, lol.

| Move Duncan to C or start Ratliff. McDyess is GARBAGE playing anywhere but PF, yet Duncan is still there and McDyess playing C? Someone is doing wrong here, and its either Pop or Duncan, because either Duncan is refusing to play C, or Pop is refusing to play him there, even though the spurs would be better off because of it. | |

| Well the first thing to do for the Spurs is to force Duncan to play Center because Timmy is one of the best if not the best big man in the league now.McDayess would be at his best when he'll be playing PF | |

| They should keep their starting lineup, and keep bonner at C at timmy at PF. This isn't surprising at all. Even in there great days of winning championships they were NEVER a regular season team, But come time for the playoffs these guys are ready to go. Basiclly they are half-assing because ....they can! | |

| I think it's better to put Timmy as C but he's great at PF | |

| Well you should because they are an entertaining team to watch! and lol, if Pop sat out his main players, they would not even be eligible for the playoffs in the first place. - Quote :

Good point Visa. I hope this is the case this season as well but when it comes to the elite teams, they often get outperformed by them. For instance, they were down by 20 at one point tonight against the Suns but came back within 3 just to crumble at the end...errr! I hope they can perform better in the future against teams over .500

| LOL Ryan. Wow, Parker's PPG has gone down quite a bit this season and his TOs have increased. Yikes! Looking at his stats right now on NBA.com. | |

| I disagree. Dallas is the second best team. Denver is ahead of San Antonio.
There is a huge difference between This year's San Antonio and the San Antonio of last decade.

| Eh...they're all very close (when healthy). But based on this year's play, sorry... 1. Dallas 2. Denver 3. San Antonio | |

| Spurs need Duncan to be willing to play center. That's their problem. | |

| Nope. Only against smaller teams does he really play center. They have Bonner and McDyess often playing terrible mismatches against bigger players to make things easier for Duncan. If they had someone like a Dampier or prototypical defensive center, it wouldn't be a problem, but both Bonner and McDyess are undersized and its hurting their defense. McDyess is not in his element against bigger players at all. | |

| That is true. He doesn't always play centre...
Errr, then either Pop or Duncan is being stubborn about having Duncan playing centre on a permanent basis.
What is interesting too is that Pop has Blair play centre on occasion.
The Spurs' defense has declined significantly during the past few seasons; so you do have a valid point...making Duncan a perm. centre could help improve on their team's overall defense.

Yeah, I wanna see the beastly McDyess that I saw on the Pistons dammit! I think this goes back to Ryan's point about McDyess experiencing mismatches due to him being out of his element. and I have a feeling it is Pop since he is a stubborn dude but I would be kinda surprised if it was Duncan, lol.
