LeBron James to give up number 23...HUH?

First topic message reminder :

Apparently, having Michael Jordan in attendance at Thursday night's game against the Heat has profoundly affected LeBron James. He has decided that he is going to stop wearing the number 23 out of respect for Jordan, and believes all other players around the league should do the same. He'll be wearing the number 6 starting next season. This is what he had to say about the announcement:

"I just think what Michael Jordan has done for the game has to be recognized some way soon,"

"There would be no LeBron James, no Kobe Bryant(notes), no Dwyane Wade(notes) if there wasn't Michael Jordan first."

So here's the question:

Does this make any sense to you?

If it's out of respect for one of the greatest player's in the NBA, why the hell is he switching to the number 6? That's Bill Russell's number! Should everyone also stop wearing 33 out of respect for Kareem? or 32 because of Magic Johnson? The list goes on and on. If everyone paid respect to the NBA greats this way, then we'd run out of numbers for anyone to wear. That's why they have something called "retired numbers" for each team LeBron. So no one else can ever wear the same jersey they did. This only makes any sense at all if you're planning to be a Chicago Bull next season, and if you are, just come out and fucking say it. This makes no sense at all, unless the league is doing even worse than they're saying and Stern personally called LeBron, begging him to change numbers and increase jersey revenue. Which conflicts with him possibly changing teams next season since, that would sell tons of new jersey's anyway. Something tells me LeBron has not thought this one over, and if this is an attempt to get the attention of MJ, its just pathetic. No matter how you look at it, this is just the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

LMAO exactly...he picked number 6 because his daughter was born on the 6th, it's his Team USA number, etc.

Im happy he didnt change it to a 3, a 24, a 12, or even a 41 or 34. We don't even know how much drama that would cause. (3=Paul, Wade; 24=Bryant; 12=Howard; 41=Nowitzki; 34=Pierce)
